Rea Road Widening (I-485 to Williams Pond Lane)

The purpose of this project is to increase capacity along Rea Road. Capacity will be increased by utilizing the right turn lane drops and median to develop an additional NB and SB through lane along Rea Road between the I-485 ramps and Williams Pond Lane. This project will also result in increased turn lane capacity and intersection improvements at Piper Station Drive and Ballantyne Commons Parkway. Pedestrian safety and mobility will be improved by providing sidewalks on both sides of Rea Road. Other specific improvements include: curb and gutter, accessible ramps, and driveways.

Advanced Metering Infrastructure Installation Services

Charlotte Water, a Department of the City of Charlotte NC, intends to advertise a Request for Proposals (RFP) to contract labor services to deploy an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system for all of its approximately 325,000 water meters (collectively, the “Project”). Charlotte Water is issuing a separate RFP for the AMI system hardware and software (the “System”), and Charlotte Water intends to engage in one contract with the successful AMI system proposer. Furthermore, Charlotte Water expects the successful labor services  proposer to act as sub-contractor to the successful AMI System proposer under one contract to install the complete AMI System. This will allow Charlotte Water to evaluate Installation Companies separate from AMI systems and make selections of the system and the installer independently while still managing one contract during the implementation phase.

The basic components of the Project sought by Charlotte Water include the following:

  • Installation of new meters, retrofit registers (if applicable), and AMI meter interface units (MIUs)
  • Handheld devices and software necessary to program and/or initialize the MIUs and collect installation data
  • The design, installation, and testing of information interfaces between the AMI system’s software components and Charlotte Water’s customer information system (CIS) and other systems, such as its field work order system
  • All related documentation, including technical manuals and operating procedures
  • Training of Charlotte Water’s employees in MIU installation
  • Managing the inventory of AMI equipment during the course of project deployment
  • Satisfactory testing of all software, hardware, and procedures prior to the deployment of the system according to the system testing and acceptance process set forth in the contract
  • Coordination, scheduling, communications, and documentation of all installation services

Sardis Road North Sidewalk

This project will provide new sidewalk along Sardis Road North from Sardis Road to westernmost intersection of Rittenhouse Circle and Sardis Road North. Project length = 0.5 miles.

Sharon Road at Eastburn Road Improvements

This project is located on Sharon Road at Eastburn Road. The project proposes a curve realignment adding a left-turn lane from Sharon Road on to Eastburn Road and removing the superelevation.

Beatties Ford Sidewalk Phase 1

This project will improve the curbs, driveway, sidewalks and ramps for Beatties Ford Road between Russell Avenue and Lasalle Street. Concrete shall be 6-inch Portland cement, asphalt shall be two-inch course and four-inch intermediate course. Gravel shall be six-inch incidental stone. Limits of proposed slopes are indicated in the plans. The contractor shall maintain erosion control devices in accordance with the appropriate city and state erosion and sediment control ordinances. Contractor shall sawcut existing asphalt and/or concrete surfaces prior to removal unless otherwise directed by the engineer. Project length is 0.281 miles.

Central Kilborne Norland Intersection & Street Upgrade

Limits are from Woodland Dr. to just south of Havenwood Rd. / Kilborne Dr. intersection (.87 miles). The project includes a new urban greenspace named Potter Place (including public art), separated bike lanes, protected intersection improvements at Central Ave., wayfinding, storm drainage, street trees, and pedestrian medians.

Brown Grier Road Upgrades

This project will widen the two-lane road to a four-lane median-divided road with multi-use paths between Steele Creek Road and Whitehall Park Drive, and a multi-use path north along Sandy Porter Road to the subdivision at Williams Glenn Road.
